TGW implements its first SAP EWM project

  • Highly automated intralogistics including complete SAP EWM implementation for the Heinrich Kipp Werk
  • Centred on high-performance shuttle system
  • 4-year Lifetime Services package with maintenance and proactive monitoring

(Marchtrenk, April 29, 2021) With a planned completion date of late 2021, TGW is constructing a highly automated intralogistics solution for the Heinrich Kipp Werk plant in Sulz am Neckar in Baden-Wuerttemberg. The German manufacturer of standard elements and operating parts can reduce lead times and speed up delivery to its industrial customers with the powerful shuttle system. The central element of the project is the implementation of SAP EWM.

The Heinrich Kipp Werk is a German manufacturer of clamping technology, standard elements and operating parts. The intralogistics of the family-owned company, founded in 1919, was increasingly running up against its performance and capacity limits as a result of growth. This is why TGW was commissioned with the construction of a highly automated despatch warehouse, including complete SAP interface.

Software expertise as SAP Silver Partner

SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) is a warehouse management software system that helps to plan, control and monitor manual and automated processes in distribution centres. As a certified SAP Silver Partner, TGW supports its customers in selecting, configuring and customising SAP software solutions. The TGW Competence Centre consists of experienced IT experts who provide support from planning and process optimisation to implementation and commissioning – with customised, future-proof solutions.

"We are very pleased about the first SAP EWM project - and that we can implement it together with Kipp" confirms Johann Steinkellner, CEO Central Europe at TGW. "The order is a vote of confidence not only in our intralogistics expertise, but above all in our software expertise."

High-performance solution

The scalable system is not equipped with shuttle vehicles at all shelf levels. At the end of each aisle is a lift that allows the shuttles to change levels. If the performance requirement increases, the system can be quickly expanded by using additional shuttles – without costly conversion measures. This means that the solution is optimally tailored to Kipp's requirements in terms of performance and throughput.

TGW shuttle technology converts braking energy into drive energy and thus makes an important contribution to Green Logistics. All functional areas will be connected to each other by energy-efficient KingDrive® conveyor systems.

TGW as partner of choice

"Our new logistics centre will cover not only the capacity and performance requirements of tomorrow, but also the customer requirements of the future," describes Michael Würtz, Head of Logistics at Heinrich Kipp Werk. "A decisive reason why we chose TGW as our partner was the high technical focus during the bidding phase. TGW won us over with innovative ideas for solving our problems. We were not simply offered a system, but a complete solution optimised to our needs. We are convinced that EWM as a warehouse management system and TGW as a partner will ensure the rapid development of an expanded, future-proof logistics centre."
